Writer Resources

Writing tips and guidelines

These will be plentiful in my workshops and a natural part of my tutelage, but I will post suggestions here on my website from time to time. A useful but basic one is starting a notebook (actual or digital) to record jottings and ideas. Another is to keep an occasional journal but do not think this has to be only from your real-life experience or perspective.

Recommended reading

Same for this section, we always discuss recommended reading in class but do read a diverse range of material and forms. Treat yourself to an anthology of poetry even if you think it isn’t your thing, same for other genres. Expand your reading horizons and your writing will be benefit.

Writing exercises and prompts

Every class I oversee will offer these but I’m a great fan or randomly selecting a word and seeing where your mind takes you. I also think writing in response to images or objects can be a helpful exercise.
